AUGUSTA, Georgia (July 27, 2021) – FIU football's Tommy Heatherly was named to the 2021 Ray Guy Watch List, the Augusta Sports Council announced on Wednesday. The sports council annually presents the award to the nation's top collegiate punter.

In 2020, Heatherly started all five games at punter for the Panthers and earned a 44.38 yard per punt average with 10 punts over 50 yards in 32 attempts. The 44.38 average ranks the highest in FIU single-season history.

Heatherly has been nothing short of sensational since arriving in Miami, averaging 43.5 yards per punt with 25 kicks of 50 or more yards since the start of the 2019 season.

The Grove, Oklahoma, native was the only non-P5 punter to be named a Ray Guy Semifinalist in 2020.

The complete list of candidates will be released on November 2nd. In mid-November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the ten semifinalists, who will be announced on November 10th. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists to be announced on November 23. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation's top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

The Panthers begin the 2021 season when the FIU welcomes Long Island to FIU Stadium on Sept. 2. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
