Women’s Soccer Hosts App State

Panthers are set to take on the Mountaineers

MIAMI (September 11, 2021) – The FIU women's soccer team is back home to host the Appalachian State Mountaineers this Sunday, Sep. 12. The Blue & Gold welcome their final non-conference opponent of the season with opening kick set to take place at noon ET in FIU Soccer Stadium.

The last match for the Blue & Gold came in a defeat against cross-town rival, Miami (3-0). FIU is looking to rebound and clean up their play before the start of the Conference USA matchups.
 
The Mountaineers are entering this contest 3-2-1, including 1-2 in the last three matches. App State's last contest resulted in a victory on the road against Wofford (2-1). The Mountaineers most notable match came in the loss to Wake Forest (2-0), who stands undefeated on the season.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
FIU and App State have a brief history against one another. The Panthers' all-time record against the Mountaineers sits at 0-1, with their only matchup coming in the 2019 season which resulted in a 2-1 road loss for the Blue & Gold.
 
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
App State is averaging nearly two goals per match while allowing 1.3 goals to its opponents. The Mountaineers are being led in goals by their sophomore D/F Breckyn Monteith, who has notched three on the season with 10 shots on goal. The keeper, Kerry Eagleston, has recorded every single minute in net for App State. Eagleston has tallied 35 saves and one shutout on the season.
 
FIU BY THE NUMBERS
Ithaisa Vinoly found herself back starting in the net for the fifth time this season and recorded a season-high eight saves against Miami. Vinoly posts 21 saves on the season in her 460 minutes played. Backliners Carmen Marin and Reagan Bridges have continued to start and play every single minute on the field for the Panthers this season. Also helping in the backline, team-captain Camille Sahirul has tallied 580 minutes, third most for FIU.
 
Laia Muñoz Danon was back in action Thursday night. The leading goal-scorer for the Blue & Gold has tallied two goals on the season and looks to add more Sunday afternoon. Sydney Amparo continues to lead FIU in points (5), assists (3) and shots (16). Freshman Noemi Paquin sits second on the squad in shots (12) this season.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers go on the road to play the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. The matchup will be the Panthers' first Conference USA opponent of the season. The contest is scheduled to begin Thursday, Sep. 16, at 7 p.m. ET in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
