TALLAHASSEE, Florida (September 17, 2021) - The FIU cross country program competed at the FSU XC Open on Friday morning, with a number of impressive performances across the board.
On the women's side, the Panthers placed 16th out of 29 teams, with a 1-5 gap of just 1:09. Sophomore
Andrea Loizidou led FIU in a time of 23:27, with
Leonarda Farkas and
Daira Deicmane just behind in 23:34 and 23:45.
Lisa Adjouadi and Johanna Kleiner rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.
"Andrea ran a solid race to lead the women" head distance coach
Jermaine Felix said. "I was pleased with our performance and how the team fought every mile."
On the men's side, freshman
Chris Ivonnet led FIU with a 27:11 in the 8K, with
Roger Reyes finishing in 27:42.
Alejandro Garcia,
Andoni Mercado, and
Christopher Gomez-Somarriba completed the scoring for the Panthers.
"We saw some really good things from Chris today in the 8K. I'm encouraged to see our group continue to drop time over the course of the season."
The teams will be in action October 1 at the UCF Cross Country Invitational.
