MIAMI– Three FIU track & field performers have earned Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.
Tim Beauchamp and
Kylie Neira claimed the men's and women's freshman of the week awards, while
Danielle McGonigle was named women's track athlete of the week for the first time this season.
Saturday at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational was another great performance in the strong season of McGonigle, who placed fifth in the triple jump and fifth in the FIU record books with a jump of 12.79m. Her mark places her #7 in the east on TFRRS and #18 overall as she aims to clinch a spot at regionals.
Beauchamp boosted his hold on fourth in school history in the discus on Friday afternoon and claimed the freshman record again with a throw of 53.89m. He is placed 19th in the East on TFRRS.
Neira earned her second freshman of the week honor this season after another strong performance in the pole vault. Claiming third in the record books and the freshman all-time mark at FIU in the pole vault, Neira placed second in the event. Her jump of 4.22m outpaced an athlete from the University of Michigan and was just behind one from the University of Nebraska, and she is currently placed at #2 in the East rankings on TFRRS and 11th overall.
