CORAL GABLES, Fla.– Competing in their own backyard, FIU outdoor track & field had a strong showing at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, winning one event and earning several top ten performances across two days on the campus of University of Miami.

On Friday, Kylie Neira continued to bolster her freshman season resume, claiming third in the record books and the freshman all-time mark at FIU in the pole vault, placing second in the event. Her jump of 4.22m outpaced an athlete from the University of Michigan and was just behind one from the University of Nebraska. Sydney Nicholson placed fifth with a mark of 3.62.

Not to be outdone, Tim Beauchamp, another freshman, boosted his hold on fourth in school history in the discus and claimed the freshman record again with a throw of 53.89m.

FIU had a great showing in the javelin on Saturday, the first event of the day, claiming the top two spots - the second-straight week an FIU team claimed a javelin win. Selena Calix got the win and the fifth-place mark in the books with a throw of 50.00m, and was followed closely by teammate Isabell-Mary Luik, who had a throw of 49.51m.

Wrapping up the Saturday festivities was another great performance in the strong season of Danielle McGonigle, who placed fifth in the triple jump and fifth in the FIU record books with a jump of 12.79m.
