BOCA RATON, Fla (September 2, 2021) - The FIU cross country teams opened up its season Wednesday night with the FAU Invitational at South County Regional Park.
Delayed by more than an hour due to lightning in the area, the men placed five in the top 25 to earn a third-place finish of seven teams, while the women wrapped up their debut with a sixth-place finish.

"This was a solid start to our season and a nice gauge of our progress so far," said head distance coach
Jermaine Felix. "We now get back to work, looking to improve for our next race in Tallahassee."
Eliseo Torres led the men with a fifth-place finish in 15:49, while Chris Ivonnet and
Roger Reyes followed behind in 16:20 and 16:23.
Jonathan Pineda placed fourth for the Panthers in 16:36, with
Christopher Gomez-Somarriba rounding out the scoring for the Panthers dipping under 17:00.
On the women's side,
Delilah Ayan guided the Panthers with a 20th place finish in a time of 19:32, nearly a minute personal best. Johanna Kleiner followed in 19:40, while
Lisa Adjouadi,
Katelyn Ziarnicki, and Hannah Moussa completed the scoring for FIU.
