Panthers Dominate Eagles 190-109 at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center

MIAMI (Jan. 22, 2022) - The FIU women's swimming and diving team pulled out a decisive dual-meet victory against FGCU on Senior Day, with the Panthers downing the Eagles by a score of 190-109 at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.

With the win, FIU improved to 5-1 in dual meets during the current campaign while also securing its fifth straight victory over FGCU.

The Blue & Gold honored nine seniors before the meet, with Julia Miranda, Kelsie Campbell, Sara Gyertyanffy, Chloe Hampson, Stephanie Hussey, Victoria Cantu, Angelina Roque, Helga Fodor, and Kaitlyn Fredericks all receiving recognition.

The Panthers secured 15 of 16 events against the Eagles in a dominant performance.

FIU swam its fastest 200 medley relay ever in a dual meet competition, as the group of Michaela Trnkova, Gyertyanffy, Miranda, and Phillip posted a mark of 1:41.41.

Christie Chue won three individual events including the 100 breaststroke (1:02.54), 200 breast (2:16.92), and 200 IM (2:06.50).

Stephanie Hussey won both the 500 freestyle (5:08.04) and the 1000 freestyle (10:32.13), while also helping FIU win the 400 freestyle relay as the leadoff leg.

Miranda posted a blazing time of 54.48 to win the 100 butterfly, marking the Panthers' fastest ever mark in a dual meet. Miranda also helped FIU win both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, while placing second in the 100 backstroke (56.88).

Gyertyanffy took first overall in the 100 freestyle (51.25) and also placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.55.

In addition to assisting with the 200 medley relay win, Trnkova also won the 100 backstroke with a mark of 56.78.

On the boards, Maha Gouda won both diving events with a score of 322.95 in the 1-meter and 307.20 in the 3-meter.

Raquel Mason and Haley Bujeda each had stellar days, posting personal bests in the 3-meter (277.43) and 1-meter (218.93), respectively.

Fodor took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.13.

Kasia Koloziej won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.37.

Elinah Phillip took first overall in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.91.

The squad of Hussey, Gyertyanffy, Kelsie Campbell, and Miranda closed out the swimming portion of the meet with a time of 3:27.65 in the 400 freestyle relay.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers make the short trip to Boca Raton, Florida next Saturday (Jan. 29) to battle the FAU Owls in FIU's last dual meet of the season. Events get underway beginning at 11 a.m. ET.
