RUSTON, La. – The FIU women's soccer team competed to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Louisiana Tech on Sunday afternoon, as freshman midfielder
Kim Schneider knotted the match in the second half with her second career goal in pacing FIU to its third point through Conference USA action.
Â
Schneider extends her scoring streak to two matches after notching her second consecutive equalizer, having net the game-tying goal last Sunday versus UTSA, while sophomore
Noemi Paquin moves to four points on the season after providing the helper in the 49
th minute.
Â
Paquin was hungry for a goal herself on the afternoon, leading the Panthers with four shots on goal on five total, followed by freshman midfielder
Catherine Rapp with three shots.
Sydney Amparo logged two shots while
Hanako Fujii added one to round out FIU's attack on the day.
Â
Despite the 1-1 final margin, the Panthers held the edge offensively for the match, outshooting the Bulldogs 12-9, including a 7-4 shot-on-goal advantage. Additionally, FIU held the edge in corner kicks, 6-5.
Â
Maaike van Klink recorded all three of FIU's second-half saves on eight shots faced for a season high, as eight Panthers logged full 90-minute efforts in the match in
Kim Schneider,
Noemi Paquin, Hanako Fuji,
Chinatsu Kaio,
Catherine Rapp,
Nikole Solis,
Reagan Bridges and
Idelys Vazquez.
Â
The Bulldogs struck first in the 11
th minute to get things going, finding themselves a corner kick opportunity that resulted in Louisiana Tech's Kalli Matlock bending an exceptional kick in goal for the 1-0 lead.
Â
The Panthers found their footing shortly after moving into Louisiana's side of the pitch, as Paquin rattled off a shot in the 17
th minute bottom-center prior to another shot on goal in the 36
th minute that'd ultimately be saved to maintain a 1-0 Bulldogs lead at the intermission.
Â
The Bulldogs tested van Klink in goal immediately out the break, as she corraled the save en route to setting up an FIU corner kick on the other end that'd result in a
Kim Schneider goal that beat the keeper top-left and tied the match at 1-1 in the 49
th minute.
Â
Maaike van Klink would handle another Bulldogs shot, as FIU's momentum promptly built to see
Catherine Rapp fire a shot on target in the 60th, followed by another Paquin shot in the 65
th that the Bulldogs' Sydnee Korchak managed to save. The Panthers kept its relentless attack with eight shots in the final frame to see a pair of shots from
Sydney Amparo and Paquin, though, the margin would ultimately remain tied for the final 1-1 draw after
Hanako Fujii would log a final desperation shot in the 88
th that'd sail high.
