MIAMI (Oct. 22, 2022) – Men's Soccer was back at FIU Soccer Stadium, Saturday night, hosting UAB. The Panthers would take out the Blazers, 2-1, for another American Athletic Conference victory.
The Panthers came out firing, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes.
In the fourth minute,
Yushi Nagao found
Fumiya Shiraishi streaking down the left wing, scoring FIU's first goal with a powerful close-range shot that beat the keeper at the near post.
Six minutes later
Stephen Afrifa put the Panthers ahead, 2-0, after skillfully tapping in a great ball from
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro.
FIU would dominate the rest of the half, pinning the Blazers in their own end and nearly scoring a third goal multiple times.
The second half was more competitive as both sides made halftime adjustments.
As both teams battled back and forth, UAB would find a goal in the 64th minute off a corner kick.
The 75th minute saw the Blazers go down to 10 men after getting a straight red card for a dangerous blow to the head of
Matthias Lavenant.
With the man advantage FIU would see out the final 15 minutes to secure the, 2-1, win.
