Men’s Soccer on the Road for High Stakes Clash with No. 14 Charlotte

Panthers look to make push for AAC regular season championship

MIAMI (Oct. 27, 2022) – Men's Soccer is headed to North Carolina for a crucial American Athletic Conference match against No. 14 Charlotte, Friday night.
 
Kickoff in Charlotte is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and that match will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
The Panthers are 9-4-1 in 2022 and 4-2-1 away from FIU Soccer Stadium. FIU is coming off a 3-2 win against Florida Gulf Coast University.
 
The 49ers are 8-3-2 this season and are 2-3-2 in the AAC. Charlotte is on a two-match skid, most recently falling to USF, 1-2.
 
ON A ROLL
The Panthers are in the midst of a three-match unbeaten streak, a common trend in the 2022 season.
 
With two win and a draw in the last three matches, FIU has now had three three-match unbeaten streaks.
 
The Panthers are also yet to lose two consecutive matches this season.
 
THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
After scoring three against FGCU on Tuesday the Panthers offense has now scored multiple goals in 10 of 14 matches in 2022.
 
The win against the Eagles marked the seventh time that FIU has scored at least three goals in a match. The Panthers are 4-2-1 in those matches, outscoring opponents 22-19.
 
Four players have scored at least three goals this season. Stephen Afrifa leads the team with nine, Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro has tallied five with Yushi Nagao and Fumiya Shiraishi having scored three times.
 
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
The 49ers have had a balanced offense this season with 14 different players registering a goal and 15 players tallying an assist. They are led by senior Kameron Lacey who has netted a team-best seven goals and has also registered four assists.
 
Redshirt junior Thomas Wallis has played every minute of the season in goal for Charlotte. In his 13 starts he has made 41 saves and posted five shutouts.

The Panthers close out the 2022 regular season, Wednesday, November 2 against cross-town rivals FAU. Kickoff at FIU Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET
