DENTON, Texas (October 29, 2022) - The FIU cross country program competed at the 2022 Conference USA Cross Country Championships, a performance highlighted by a fourth-place team finish by the women - the highest result in program history at the conference championships. The men's squad also saw progress with a seventh place mark, up from a 10th place finish at the championships a season ago.
RESULTS
"I'm incredibly proud of both of these groups - and the results today were a deserved moment for each of them," said head distance coach
Jermaine Felix. "Their training prepared them for postseason racing, and the student-athletes executed as well as we could've asked for today."
Andrea Loizidou guided the Panthers, running 21:48 for the 6K course to earn second-team all-conference honors with a 12th place finish, nearly a minute personal best.
Lisa Adjouadi also earned a PR, finishing in 23:07.
Delilah Ayan,
Daira Deicmane, and
Leonarda Farkas completed the scoring for FIU, with Ayan crossing the line in 23:10 for a PR as well.
The Panthers 142 were 14 ahead of the next program, UAB.
On the men's side, the seventh-place Panthers were led by
Eliseo Torres, who finished the 8K course in 26:37.
Jonathan Pineda, Dennis Moreno,
Disner Moreno, and
Andoni Mercado completed the scoring for FIU.
"This is a notable milestone for our program to place this high at conference on the women's side," said Felix. "We're excited to continue to work and see what we can accomplish in the upcoming years - however as of this moment, it's time to turn our attention to the regional meet."
The NCAA South Regional will take place November 11 in Huntsville, Alabama.
