Panthers Collect Six Singles Wins to Highlight Day Two of FIU Invitational

FIU tallied wins in seven of 11 matches on Saturday.

MIAMI, Fla. - The Panthers bounced back with several strong performances on the second day of action at the FIU Invitational, as FIU recorded seven wins through 11 matches on Saturday, including nabbing wins in six of eight singles matches at the FIU Tennis Courts.

All six Panthers competing each recorded singles wins on Saturday, as the Panthers matched up with FAU in singles after facing a a pair of USF doubles tandems and one Mizzou pair. 

FIU rattled off six-straight singles win through the latter portion of the morning, as No. 104 Yasmine Kabbaj rebounded from a first-set deficit to bounce back in three sets over FAU's Martina Kudelova, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, followed by a straight-set decision from Ekaterina Khairutdinova over FAU's Katerina Filip, 6-0, 6-3. 

No. 119 Kamila Umarova downed Carla Galmiche, 6-2, 6-1, to pick up her fourth overall win this weekend, while junior Salma Loudili dropped Millie-Mae Matthews, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Kristina Miletic added a 6-2, 6-2, effort against Amber McGinnis, while frshman Katerina Mandelikova rounded out FIU's singles victories on the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-2 , win over Maya Shanok for her first career singles win as a Panther. 

Khairutdinova and Miletic played a pair of additional singles matches versus Mizzou, as FIU's lone singles losses would come in the two matchups - seeing Khairutdinova fall in three to Mizzou's Mau Canete, 5-7, 6-4, 9-11, while Miletic fell to Andrea Artimedi, 4-6, 2-6. 

Doubles opened the morning prior to FIU's singles success, as the Panther duo of Kamila Umarova and Kristina Miletic recorded FIU's lone win through the early morning session with a 6-3 defeat of FAU's Koldobski and Martinez. 

Mandelikova and Khairutdinova slipped to Mizzou's Canete and Masic, 2-6, while Kabbaj and Loudili slipped, 3-6, to Canete and Schwarte. 

UP NEXT
Sunday's final day of action in Miami is slated for a 9 a.m. start with doubles action, followed by concluding the FIU Invitational with singles play.
