FIU Volleyball Set for Home/ Road Weekend Split Against UAB and Charlotte

The Panthers Will take on the Blazers during Homecoming Week

MIAMI, Fla. -  The FIU women's volleyball team (3-14, 0-4 C-USA) is back in action this weekend for a brief one-game home stand and will close out the weekend on the road. The Panthers continue conference play and will take on the University of Alabama at Birmingham at home on Friday Oct. 7 and then travel to play the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Sunday Oct. 9.

The Panthers look for their first win in conference play this season and they have the chance to do so during the Homecoming weekend festivities. FIU holds the series lead on both teams they play this weekend which started over 40 years ago.

Junior outside hitter, Emily Meyer, is still in the top 10 in C-USA with 3.14 kills/set which is eighth best. In FIU's last match against Middle Tennessee, she recorded her career high in kills with 21. She finished with 32 kills combined in both matches last weekend.

Libero Katie Turner continues to be one of top defensive specialists in C-USA. She is fifth in the whole conference averaging 4.51 digs/set and has 266 so far this season. She continues to climb the rankings in that category as she was seventh two weeks ago. Against MTSU, she finished with 28 kills which led both teams.

SCOUTING UAB:
The Blazers enter Friday night's matchup against the Panthers winning three out of their last four matches. They have won their last two matches against conference opponents MTSU and Charlotte.UAB was picked to finish sixth in the C-USA preseason poll, one spot ahead of FIU. The Blazers are led by outside hitter Fernanda Maida. Maida was the only player on UAB named to the 2022 Conference USA Preseason team and she leads them with 212 kills so far this season. She is fourth in the conference with 3.66 kills/ set.

Another player on UAB that is making noise in the conference is outside hitter Alex Kells. She is third on UAB with 176 kills and ninth in the conference with 3.06 kills/set. The Panthers will be going up against one of the top defensive specialists in the conference, Erin Powers. She leads the Blazers with 271 digs and is fourth in the conference averaging 4.51/ set.

SCOUTING Charlotte:
The 49ers are still searching for their first win in C-USA action this season. They were picked to finish fourth in the C-USA Preseason Poll were headlined by two players in the 2022 C-USA preseason team, Emani Foster and Amani McArthur.
Outside hitter, Emani Foster, is first in all of C-USA with 291 kills and is first by a wide margin averaging 5.20/set. She is also first in the conference in total points recorded with 327.

Middle blocker, Amani McArthur, is second on the 49er's volleyball team with 112 kills. She leads the conference with a .427 hitting percentage. She is also one of top two-way players in the conference with 61 blocks this season. She is averaging 1.22 blocs/ set which is fourth best in the conference.

UP NEXT
After their weekend home/road split, the Panthers will head back home the following week to play against Middle Tennessee State University on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1:00 p.m. ET. The Blue Raiders won the first matchup 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25) over the Panthers earlier this season on Oct. 2.

The match is scheduled to be broadcasted on CUSA.tv.
