No. 22 Men’s Soccer Set to Take on USF in The American Championship Final

Panthers look to capture second trophy of 2022

MIAMI (Nov. 12, 2022) –
No. 1 seed Men's Soccer is set to battle No. 3 seed USF for the American Athletic Conference Championship, Sunday, November 13.
 
Kickoff at FIU Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m. ET and the match can be watched live on ESPN+.
 
The Panthers are now 12-4-1 overall, 7-2-1 conference record and 7-2 record at home after taking out Memphis, 1-0, in the semifinals.
 
The Bulls hold an 8-5-4 overall record, are 5-1-3 in the AAC and a 3-3-2 away from Tampa after beating SMU, 1-0, in their semifinal match.
 
FIU and USF last met on October 16 as the two sides played to an exciting, 3-3, draw in Tampa.

CAN'T STOP
With five wins and a draw in the last six matches, FIU has had three three-match unbeaten streaks and are on a season-best six-match unbeaten streak heading into the conference championship final.
 
The Panthers have outscored opponents 13-7 during this streak.

RESILIENCE
The Panthers have been hard to beat all season.
 
FIU has not lost two matches in a row this season and followed up a loss with a win three times.
 
They hold a perfect 9-0 record in one-score matches, including winning the last five matches by one goal.
 
The Panthers have scored 12 goals in the 70th minute or later with seven coming in the 80th minute or later.

SPREADING THE WEALTH
FIU has netted 35 goals in 2022 and it has been a true team effort.

15 different Panthers have scored at least one goal this season, led by Stephen Afrifa (10).

11 different players have registered at least one assist this season, led by Yushi Nagao (6). 

SCOUTING USF
The Bulls have been strong in the second half of the season, currently riding a five-match winning streak.
 
USF's offense has netted 23 goals this season, led by sophomore Oscar Resano with five.
 
Redshirt senior Jackson Weyman is the man in goal for USF. He has started all 17 matches for the Bulls making 57 saves and posting four shutouts, including most recently against SMU in The American Championship semifinals.
 
UP NEXT
The NCAA Tournament starts next week with the selection on Monday, November 14 when the Panthers will see where they land in the bracket.
