No. 10 Seed Men’s Soccer Welcomes New Hampshire For NCAA Second Round Clash

Panthers set to make 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament

MIAMI (Nov. 17, 2022) – 10th-seeded FIU Men's Soccer is set to host New Hampshire on Sunday, November 20 at 6 p.m. ET, for a NCAA Second Round match, after the Panthers earned a first-round bye as regular season and tournament champions of The American.
 
The Panthers are 13-4-1 overall, 6-2-1 in conference play and 8-2 at home, most recently beating USF, 2-0, to capture The American Championship at FIU Soccer Stadium.
 
The Wildcats hold a 15-4 overall record, a 5-1-3 record in America East play and a 5-3 record on the road.
 
FIU and New Hampshire last met on September 10 with the Wildcats topping the Panthers in Durham, New Hampshire by a 3-0 margin.
 
TOURNAMENT VETS
FIU is making its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. The Panthers own an 8-11 overall record in tournament play, with their best run in the tournament coming in 1996, when they advanced to the championship match before falling to St. John's, 4-1.
 
The program made its first appearance in 1991 and most recently appeared in NCAA postseason play last season, hosting Wake Forest at FIU Soccer Stadium, falling to the Demon Deacons, 3-2.
 
MAKE IT 7
With six wins and a draw in the last seven matches, FIU is on a season-best seven-match unbeaten streak heading into the NCAA tournament.
 
The Panthers have outscored opponents 15-7 during this streak and shutout its last three opponents.
 
RESILIENCE
FIU has not lost two matches in a row this season and followed up a loss with a win three times.
 
They hold a perfect 9-0 record in one-score matches, including winning five of the last six matches by one goal.
 
The Panthers have scored 12 goals in the 70th minute or later with seven coming in the 80th minute or later.
 
SPREADING THE WEALTH
15 different Panthers have scored at least one goal this season, led by Stephen Afrifa (10).
 
11 different players have registered at least one assist this season, led by Yushi Nagao (6).
 
TROPHIES UPON TROPHIES
The Panthers have won conference regular season championships in back-to-back seasons under Head Coach Kyle Russell.
 
In its first season in the AAC, FIU finished with a 6-2-1 conference record to win the regular season championship. The Panthers followed that up with an American Athletic Conference Championship tournament victory.
 
In the program's final season in C-USA, the Panthers finished with a 7-0-1 conference record to capture that conference regular season championship.
 
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats are in form heading into Sunday's match, winning 13 of their last 14 matches.
 
New Hampshire's offense has netted 35 goals this season, led by sophomore junior Eli Goldman's nine and graduate student Johann von Knebel's seven assists.
 
Senior Jassem Koleilat is the man in goal for the Wildcats. He has started 19 matches this season, making 36 saves and posting 11 shutouts.
 
UP NEXT
The Panther would move on to the NCAA Third Round with a victory, on Sunday, facing the winner of No. 7 seed Duke and Denver on November 26 or 27.
