FIU Women’s Hoops Ready for First Road Contest of the Season Against Jacksonville

The Panthers Dropped their only Matchup Against the Dolphins Last Season

MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU women's basketball team will be traveling away from Miami for the first time in the 2022-2023 season as they take on the Jacksonville University Dolphins on Saturday, Nov.19 in Jacksonville, Fla., beginning at 1 p.m.

The Panthers (1-1, 0-0 C-USA) are entering Saturday's game against Jacksonville as one of the top scoring teams in Conference USA averaging 83 points a game. They are shooting at a remarkable clip from behind the arc at 36% which is the third best mark in the conference.
 
FIU is led by redshirt freshman guard, Sifa Joyeuse, who is averaging 18 points per game and is the third leading scorer in C-USA. She is also a factor on the glass collecting 6.5 rebounds a game which is second on the team.
 
Junior forward, Maria Torres, has taken a huge leap in production from her sophomore campaign. This season, she leads the Panthers averaging eight rebounds per game after averaging 3.2 last year. Torres is close to averaging a double-double this season and is the fourth leading scorer on the Panthers with 9.5 points per game.
 
Redshirt junior, Mihaela Lazic, has been the starting point guard in the early portion of the season and leads FIU with 4.5 assists per game. Lazic is third on the team in scoring averaging 10.5 points per game.
 
SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE UNIVERSITY 
The Dolphins finished with a 16-13 overall record last season and had an 8-8 record in the Atlantic Sun Conference. One of their victories last season was against FIU in which the Dolphins edged out the Panthers 35-33.
 
JU is entering Saturday's matchup against FIU dropping their last two games. They won their season opener against Johnson University Florida and the Dolphins have four players averaging double digit points after their first three games of the season.
 
Redshirt senior guard, DeShari Graham, paces Jacksonville averaging 14.7 points per game. Graduate student guard, Seraphine Bastin, is off to great start this season and displays a well-rounded game. She is second on the squad averaging 12.7 points and is the leader in rebounds averaging 8.3 per game. Bastin is also the one who orchestrates the offense for the Dolphins leading with 6.3 assists per game.

The Panthers will return to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center as they will host the FIU Thanksgiving Classic. The Panthers will host Howard University on Friday, Nov. 25 at 12 p.m. and then play Drake University or the University of Massachusetts on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 1 p.m.
