MIAMI (Nov. 9, 2022) – The American Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference teams, Wednesday afternoon, with No. 22 Men's Soccer earning five total honors for the 2022 season.
The Panthers'
Stephen Afrifa and
Yushi Nago were named First Team All-Conference,
Bernardo Dos Santos Montiero and
Carlos Scheckermann were named Second Team All-Conference and
Joao Domingues was named to the All-Rookie Team.
Afrifa has been a force since his freshman season and is now one of FIU's all-time greats. He leads the team with nine goals this season and is one of only two players to be unanimously named First Team All-Conference. The forward was also named first team all-conference last season in C-USA.
Nagao had a breakout season in 2022 and was instrumental in FIU's high-powered attack. The senior has tallied a team-best six assists and has scored three goals for the Panthers. He is also one of only four players to have played in all 16 games this season.
Bernardo was fantastic in the second half of the season, helping lift FIU to the top of The American standings. The sophomore scored five goals and assisted on three others with his 13 total points ranking second on the team. He earned first team honors in C-USA last season as a freshman.
Scheckermann was a force in the FIU defense with his combination of size and positioning. The senior played the second most minutes for the Panthers with 1104 and scored a key goal against then No. 14 Charlotte that lifted FIU to No. 1 in the AAC standings headed into the final week of the season.
Domingues has been one of this senior heavy teams best all-around performers. The freshman played in 13 matches as a winger and left back, scoring two goals and adding one assist. Just 12 minutes into his Panthers debut, Domingues scored the match winner against UNF.

The top-seeded Panthers are set to host No. 5 seed Memphis, Thursday, November 10 in an American Athletic Conference Championship semifinal match. Kickoff at FIU Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET and the math can be watched live on ESPN+.
