WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (December 11, 2022) - The FIU track and field program opened its 2022 indoor campaign Saturday with a number of impressive performances at the Purdue Edmonds-Wilt Invitational, including victories in the weight throw, pole vault, and shot put.
FINAL RESULTSÂ
Sophomore
Michaelle Valentin earned a win in the weight throw with a mark of 19.86m - good for third all-time in FIU indoor history.
Filippa Miller, coming off Second-Team All-American honors last season, opened her junior campaign with a victory in the pole vault at 4.09m. In the shot put,
Marqueisha Weeks took the top spot with a mark of 13.73m - just outside the FIU indoor top-five list.Â
"This was a really good way to start our season," said head coach
Ryan Heberling. "We looked sharp in a number of areas. I'm proud of how the practice efforts carried over to this first competition."Â
The Panthers also saw more strong performances across the board.
Arielle Ho placed second in the high jump, Nicole Janse Van Rensburg second in the pole vault,
Gabby Bryan third in the weight throw, and
Bessline Verneau second in the shot put.Â
