MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (Feb. 17, 2021) - The FIU women's basketball team came up short against Middle Tennessee in the first of three games on the road, as the Panthers fell to the Blue Raiders by a score of 49-63 on Thursday night.
FIU's record now stands at 12-11 and 4-8 in Conference USA. The Blue Raiders improved to 18-5 and 10-3 in the league.
The Panthers' night was highlighted by Ariel Colon, who surpassed one-thousand career points early in the first quarter. Colon put up 22 points in the contest on 45 percent shooting from the floor.
Emerald Ekpiteta produced a solid night, scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.
Colon opened the contest hot, scoring 14 of her points in the first quarter while making 5-of-6 attempts from the floor and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
The Panthers trailed 22-36 at the half as Colon led FIU with 18 points.
FIU had its best performance in the third period, outscoring MT by a margin of 14-12. Ekpiteta collected eight points in the period.
The Panthers went on an 10-0 in the final frame and were able to cut the deficit to 41-48 with 8:30 left to play, but the Blue Raiders were able to stave off FIU's attempt at a comeback.
