JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FIU women's tennis team posted a dominating 7-0 win over Georgia Southern University on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville for its fourth win in its last five dual matches overall.
The Panthers opened play with wins in two of the three dual matches with No. 1 tandem
Andjela Skrobonja and
Kamila Umarova edging out a 7-5 triumph over Nadja Meier and Dana Heiman, before
Andreea Velcea and
Yasmine Kabbaj cruised past Silvia Martinez and Hannah Daniel 6-2 to secure the doubles point.
Kabbaj (No. 1) won in three sets by a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 tally and Umarova posted a hard-fought 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-5) over Heimen in No, 2 singles. Skrobonja cruised past Sophie Wagemaker, 6-3, 6-4 to lead the No. 3 through No. 6 singles players – who each posted straight-set victories.
The win improves the Panthers' mark in dual matches to 4-2 overall.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to action at home at the FIU Tennis Center on Monday, Feb. 21 with a dual match against UCF that is slated for a 12 p.m. ET start.
