Swim & Dive Breaks Two Program Records on Day One of C-USAs; Sits in First Place

Panthers won gold in both relay events to open C-USA championships

LYNCHBURG, Virginia (Feb. 23, 2022) - The FIU women's swimming and diving team sits in first place overall after Day One at the Conference USA Championships, as the Panthers secured gold medals in both of the opening day's relay events while breaking two FIU program records and a C-USA meet record.

The Panthers shattered an FIU program record in the 200 medley relay to open the meet, as the group of Michaela Trnkova, Sara Gyertyanffy, Julia Miranda, and Elinah Phillip posted a time of 1:36.79 in the A Final to take first place. The mark also stood as a meet record for the C-USA Championships and an NCAA B Standard time.

Hussey also broke an individual program record in the 100 butterfly earlier in the day with a time of 52.71 in a time trial.
Later, the group of Stephanie Hussey, Christie Chue, Lamija Medosevic, and Miranda closed out the evening with a second gold for FIU in the 800 freestyle relay, swimming a time of 7:11.78.
FIU now sits in first place overall with 88 points heading in Day Two of the meet. Rice (76), Marshall (68), North Texas (66), FAU (66), and ODU (64) follow behind.

UP NEXT, DAY TWO
Day Two will consist of the 500-yard freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and the 3-meter dive.

Prelims get underway beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET for the swimmers and Noon for the divers. Finals start at 6 p.m. For a full schedule of events, click here.

CHAMPION THE PANTHERS
