Swim & Dive Wins Six Medals on Day Two; Leads at C-USA Championships

Panthers in first overall with 352 points

LYNCHBURG, Virginia (Feb. 24, 2022) - The FIU women's swimming and diving team sits in first place overall with 352 points following Day Two at the Conference USA Championships after the Panthers won six medals, including three golds, and reached the podium in all five events.

FIU won gold in the 200 individual medley, the 50 freestyle, and the 200 freestyle relay. Stephanie Hussey took bronze in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:51.02.

On the diving side, Maha Gouda secured a silver medal in the 3-meter with a score of 358.65. Gouda narrowly missed first place by 0.25 points.

Freshman Christie Chue claimed her first-ever C-USA gold in an individual event after swimming a time of 1:58.42 in the 200 IM. 

Elinah Phillip became the 50 free champion with a time of 22.33, followed closely by Kelsie Campbell who took silver in the event with a mark of 22.56.

The group of Phillip, Campbell, Hussey, and Julia Miranda won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.75 to close out the day.

FIU is currently ahead of second-place Rice (321) by a margin of 31 points. North Texas (202), Marshall Texas (198), FAU (190), and ODU (147) follow behind in the standings.

UP NEXT, DAY THREE
Day Three will feature the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breast, 100 back, the 1-meter dive, and the 400 medley relay.

Prelims get underway beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET for the swimmers and Noon for the divers. Finals start at 6 p.m. For a full schedule of events, click here.

CHAMPION THE PANTHERS
