Women's Hoops Returns to Host Marshall on Thursday

Panthers and Thundering Herd square off at 7 p.m. ET

MIAMI (Feb. 9, 2022) – FIU women's hoops returns to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center (OBCC) this Thursday, Feb. 10, when the Panthers host Marshall.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET against the Thundering Herd.

GAME PREVIEW
FIU owns an 11-10 record (3-7 Conference USA) this season, including an impressive 9-4 record at the OBCC. In their last homestand, FIU swept UTSA (81-53) and UTEP (72-45) in two impressive defensive performances that saw the Panthers win by a combined 55 points. FIU dropped its last contest on Monday, Feb 7, against ODU.

Marshall owns an 11-9 record (6-5 C-USA) this season and is currently riding a four-game losing streak. The Thundering Herd have fared well at home (7-3 record) but struggled on the road (3-6) this season. Marshall is coming off a 37-39 loss at the hands of Charlotte in overtime last Saturday (Feb. 5).

INSIDE THE SERIES
FIU and Marshall have met 16 times in their history, with the Thundering Herd holding an 11-5 advantage in the all-time series. Marshall narrowly defeated FIU (59-62) earlier this season on Jan. 20.

SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD
Savannah Wheeler ranks second in C-USA in scoring (19.8 ppg) and free-throw shooting percentage (.828). Wheeler also ranks fourth in the league with 2.05 made 3-pointers per game.

Lorelei Roper paces the Thundering Herd on the boards, grabbing seven per contest. In C-USA, Roper ranks second overall in offensive rebounds per game (3.4) and 9th in blocked shots (22).

As a team, Marshall ranks fourth in C-USA in scoring defense (59.55), third in turnover margin (+4.65), and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.91). Marshall also grabs 14.15 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the league. 

Marshall likes to shoot the ball from beyond the arc, averaging six made 3-pointers per contest.

UP NEXT
The Panthers hit the road next week for a three-game stint, beginning with a contest against Middle Tennessee on Thursday, Feb. 17. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET against the Blue Raiders.
