Women's Hoops Travels to FAU for Last Road Contest of Season

Panthers tip-off against rival Owls at 6 p.m. ET

MIAMI (Mar. 1, 2021) - FIU women's hoops makes the short trip to Boca Raton, Florida on Wednesday, Mar. 2, when the Panthers play their last road game of the regular season against the rival FAU Owls.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET from the Abessinio Court at FAU Arena.

FAU MATCHUP PREVIEW
The Panthers enter the contest with a 12-15 overall record, including a 4-12 mark in Conference USA play. FIU is looking to grab its first win since Feb. 10. With the regular season coming to a close this week, FIU is locked in for the sixth seed in the C-USA East Division and is unofficially set to tip-off against FAU in the play-in game at the C-USA Championship next week.

The Owls have recorded a 5-22 record (1-15 C-USA) this season are in last place in the C-USA East Division standings. The Owls are aiming to snap a nine-game losing streak on Thursday and look to win their first home game since Jan. 29.

ALL-TIME SERIES  
The Panthers lead the all-time series over the Owls by a margin of 34-15. FIU saw FAU twice last season and split the two contests. The Panthers fell by a score of 69-73 in Boca Raton on Jan. 15, 2021, before bouncing back with a 65-62 win over FAU in Miami the next day.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Rita Pleskevich leads FAU in scoring with 11.4 points per game, while Kynadi Kuykendoll paces the Owls with 2.8 assists per game.

FAU has four players averaging double-figures in scoring, with Pleskevich, Alexa Zaph (11.2), Janeta Rozentale (11.2), and Amber Gaston (10.9) leading the way.

Rozentale leads FAU with 8.3 rebounds per game this season.

As a team, the Owls rank third overall in C-USA with a .741 free throw percentage.

FIU BY THE NUMBERS
FIU is led in scoring this season by Ariel Colon, who averages 12.4 points per game.

Kyla Nelson ranks second on the squad with 12.1 points per game and leads FIU in made 3-pointers (64) and 3-point shooting percentage (.344).

Freshman Tanajah Hayes has been an excellent two-way guard for FIU this season as the Panther leads the squad with 81 total assists and 53 steals.

Fifth-year forward Emerald Ekpiteta paces FIU with 6.9 boards per contest.

Maria Torres leads FIU with 31 blocks on the season.

UP NEXT
The Panthers wrap up the regular season at home with a rematch against FAU on Saturday, Mar. 5. Tip-off against the Owls is set for Noon ET at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
