MIAMI (Mar. 10, 2022) - The FIU women's swimming and diving team is in first place at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship (NIC) with 265 points after the first day of events, with the Panthers breaking two school records, one NIC record and reaching the podium four times along the way.
FIU is in first place overall at the meet ahead of Power-5 programs such as Ohio State (256, 2nd) and Tennessee (242, 3rd).

Sara Gyertyanffy broke an FIU record in the 50 breaststroke during the prelims on Thursday with a time of 27.82. Gyertyanffy later went on to reset the record with a time of 27.60 in the A Final while winning the event.
Kelsie Campbell also broke a program record during the 50 butterfly prelims with a time of 23.90.
The Panthers took second-place at the podium in the 200 freestyle relay A Final, as the group of Gyertyanffy, Jessica Shpilko, Campbell, and Julia Miranda posted a mark of 1:31.03.
Miranda tied for third place and saw the podium in the 50 butterfly A Final with a time of 23.97. Campbell placed fifth in the A Final with a time of 24.07, while Stephanie Hussey placed ninth with a mark of 24.28.
FIU capped the opening day with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay, as the team of Trnkova, Goll, Hussey, and Shpilko swam a time of 3:38.54.
In the 200 IM A Final, Hussey placed fourth overall with a mark of 2:00.22.
Delaine Goll also placed fifth in the 50 breast A Final with a time of 28.43.
Michaela Trnkova placed fifth in the 50 backstroke A Final (25.04).
Campbell placed sixth (22.98) in the 50 freestyle A Final, while Miranda placed eighth (23.09)
UP NEXT
The swimmers hit the water again on Friday for Day Two beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET for prelims, followed by the finals session at 6 p.m.
