MIAMI – The No. 37 FIU women's tennis team had to wait out the rain before posting a 4-0 shutout of Butler to extend its current winning streak to seven straight matches on Thursday afternoon.
The win improves the Panthers' overall mark to 9-2 overall. The match also marked FIU second of a stretch of three over a four-day span, which concludes tomorrow in a 12 p.m. ET start against Valparaiso.
FIU wasted little time in setting the tone as the No. 1 tandem of
Kamila Umarova and
Andjela Skrobonja combined to clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 win after the No. 2 pairing of Kristina Miletec and
Andreea Velcea notched an identical 6-2 triumph.
Freshman
Yasmine Kabbaj (No. 1) and Skrobonja (No. 3) each won in straight sets to put the Panthers firmly in control before Umarova clinched the match at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Butler's Delaney Schurhamer.
