MIAMI – The No. 35 FIU women's tennis team tabbed its ninth straight dual match victory on Thursday with a 5-2 win over East Tennessee State.
The Panthers earned the win after successfully claiming the doubles point on the strength of identical 6-3 wins by the No. 1 duo of
Kamila Umarova/
Andjela Skrobonja and
Andreea Velcea/
Kristina Miletic in the No. 2 slot.
Umarova (No. 2), Skrobonja (No. 3) and
Yasmine Kabbaj (No. 1) each posted singles wins to push the Panthers in front. Miletic clinched the match with a tightly contested 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) win over ETSU's Daniela Rivera at No. 4.
Umarova is now riding a 10-match winning streak in singles play, while Skrobonja has posted eight-straight wins in singles and Kabbaj has recorded seven in a row.
In addition, the No. 1 doubles pairing of Umarova and Skrobonja has netted eight straight victories following Thursday's triumph.
The win marked the Panthers' ninth straight overall and ups their mark to 11-2 on the season. FIU is also a perfect 6-0 in home matches. ETSU slips to 10-7 with the loss.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will continue their current homestand with their fifth straight home dual clash on Tuesday, March 22 when they host Yale in a 12 p.m. ET start.
