Women's Basketball Hosts FAU for Season Finale on Senior Day

Panthers and Owls tip-off at Noon ET at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center

MIAMI (Mar. 4, 2021) - The FIU women's basketball team hosts its last game of the regular season on Saturday, Mar. 4, when the Panthers battle rival FAU at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center (OBCC).

FIU is set to honor its five seniors before the contest as Kyla Nelson, Emerald Ekpiteta, Ariel Colon, Raquel Ferrer-Bernad, and Alma Danielsson get set to play one last time in front of the Panther faithful.

Tip-off is set for Noon ET at the OBCC. The first 200 FIU students to arrive will receive a free "Roary Day" t-shirt. Students must present a valid FIU One Card to receive a shirt.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
The Panthers enter the contest with a 13-15 overall record, including a 5-12 mark in Conference USA play. FIU is fresh off a dominant win over FAU in Boca Raton this past Wednesday, Mar. 2. With the regular season coming to a close this week, FIU is locked in for the sixth seed in the C-USA East Division and is unofficially set to tip-off against FAU in the play-in game at the C-USA Championship next week.

The Owls have recorded a 5-23 record (1-16 C-USA) this season are in last place in the C-USA East Division standings. The Owls are aiming to snap a 10-game losing streak on Thursday and look to win their first road game since Dec. 2, 2021.

ALL-TIME SERIES  
FIU leads the all-time series over FAU by a margin of 35-15. The Panthers have won two straight games against the Owls and are looking for their first three-game winning streak since Feb. 17, 2018 .

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Janeta Rozentale leads FAU in scoring with 11.6 points per game, while Kynadi Kuykendoll paces the Owls with 2.7 assists per game.

FAU has four players averaging double-figures in scoring, with Rita Pleskevich (11.3), Amber Gaston (10.8), and Alexa Zaph (10.7) leading the way.

Rozentale leads FAU with 8.5 rebounds per game this season.

As a team, the Owls rank fourt overall in C-USA with a .739 free throw percentage.

FIU BY THE NUMBERS
Kyla Nelson leads FIU with 12.2 points per game, while also pacing the Panthers in made 3-pointers (67) and 3-point shooting percentage (.349).

Freshman Tanajah Hayes has been an excellent two-way guard for FIU this season as the Panther leads the squad with 84 total assists and 55 steals.

Fifth-year forward Emerald Ekpiteta grabs a team-high 6.8 boards per game. Maria Torres leads FIU with 32 blocks on the season.

UP NEXT
The Panthers get set to play in the Conference USA Tournament next week in Frisco, Texas at the Ford Center. The opening round is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 8. Game times are yet to be announced.
