CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (April 22, 2022) - Queshun Watson-Riggins had a performance to remember at the Virginia Challenge, setting a school record in the long jump en route to taking the top spot at the event Friday.
Watson-Riggins, a junior, jumped 7.93m, to reset his previous personal best of 7.82m which was set at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships last season. Watson-Riggins mark was a meet record, a UVA facility record, and puts him in the top spot among C-USA jumps this season, number eight in the NCAA and 17th in the world.
"Queshun put on a show," said head coach
Ryan Heberling. "This was a tremendous performance on a notable stage as we get closer to the outdoor championships. We're proud of his effort and excited to keep working."
Elsewhere, the Panthers saw other impressive performances over the course of the day. Sophomore
Rhema Otabor earned the victory in the javelin with a throw of 54.94m, more than 3m ahead of the next competitor.
Qua'liyyah Taylor had a 2-meter personal best in the discus, moving into sixth all-time in FIU outdoor history in the event.
Action will resume Saturday at noon with the heptathlon, while the 100m hurdles will begin at 12:30.
