SAN ANTONIO (May 15, 2022) - Rhema Otabor's gold medal in the javelin highlighted the final day of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships, as FIU put up impressive performances Sunday in San Antonio.  "Rhema had a great performance, and it's terrific to see her earn her second straight gold medal at conference," said head coach Ryan Heberling. "It's a deserved start to her postseason."

Otabor's throw of 52.19m was more than a meter ahead of the next competitor. She will attempt to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the second consecutive season when she competes at the NCAA East Preliminaries.

In the women's pole vault, Filippa Miller took home the silver with a mark of 4.18m, the second best jump of her career. The second place mark was the highest finish at a conference meet as a Panther for Miller as well. Nicole Janse Van Rensberg narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth with a vault of 3.98m.

Desmond Dorecus earned a bronze in the shot put, nearly setting a personal best with a throw of 17.28m. Dorceus also earned a bronze at the Conference USA Indoor Championships in the event.

Queshun Watson-Riggins scored 12 points for FIU over the meet - on Sunday, he placed third in the triple jump for his second bronze of the weekend.

On the track, the Panthers saw a number of athletes qualify for Sunday's finals. Tyler Rhodes and Da'Mon Daniels earned a fifth and sixth place finish the 110 hurdles, respectively, to give FIU seven points in the event. In the women's 1500, Lisa Adjouadi earned an 11th place finish in the finals, finishing with a time of 4:43.89. Eliseo Torres placed 10th in the 10000m with a time of 32:33.

As a team, both the FIU men and women took home eighth place finishes.

Next up for the Panthers will be the NCAA East Prelims, set to take place May 26-28 in Bloomington, Indiana.
