MIAMI (Aug. 16, 2022) –
Stephen Afrifa has been named as a Player to Watch by the United Soccer Coaches in advance of the upcoming 2022 season, gracing the list as a forward.
Afrifa led all Panthers in scoring last season, logging eight goals on the year to go along with three assists. The 2021 campaign marked a career high in points for Afrifa, who totaled 19. Afrifa led all of Conference USA in shot attempts, shots-on-goal, and game-winning goals within league play during the regular season.
The Canadian forward racked up multiple accolades in 2021, including All-Southeast Region First Team honors and a spot on the All-CUSA First Team. At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Afrifa ranked 62nd nationally in goals scored and 92nd in total points.
Afrifa started 18 games for FIU while leading all Panther attacking players with a total of 1,094 minutes played.
The United Soccer Coaches watch lists are being released for the first time this season by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second team All-Region players from 2021, who are scheduled to return for the 2022 season.
