Women's Soccer Travels to Stetson Thursday

Panthers search for first win versus Sunshine State foe

MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU women's soccer team looks to pick up its first victory on the young 2022 season this Thursday evening when it travels to face Stetson in Deland, Fla. at the Stetson Athletic Training Center.

Thursday, Aug. 25 at Stetson (1-1, 0-0 ASUN)
Through two matches, the Panthers' scoring has been led by sophomores Noemi Paquin (1 goal) and Delinda Sehlin, who notched her first career goal in the Blue and Gold in Sunday's home opener against Mississippi State. Sophomore forward Farah El Tayar has also recorded a shot-on-goal as a part of FIU's attacking core.

FIU fell 3-1 to Mississippi State on Sunday, though, senior goalkeeper Ithaisa Vinoly was active in tallying six saves against the Bulldogs despite the loss. A trio of newcomers made their FIU debuts on Sunday in freshmen Kennedy Yon, Kim Schneider and Kennedy Floyd.

LAST TIME:
FIU dropped Stetson in the 2021 season opener, 2-0, at FIU Soccer Stadium behind a pair of early goals in the 13th and 26th minutes. Thursday's meeting marks the third-straight year facing off with the Hatters.

SCOUTING STETSON:
The Hatters are 1-1 on the season after a 5-0 season-opening rout over South Carolina State on Aug. 18 prior to falling 3-0 to Florida on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Stetson has had four different goal scorers through its first two games, led by freshman midfielder Alexis Smith (1 goal, 1 assist), followed by Arianna Lombardi, Gaby Padilla and Georgia Place all with one goal apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Grimmett leads the Hatters in goal, holding an .800 save percentage with 12 saves on 32 shots faced thus far this season.  Despite the all-time series edge, FIU is 1-4-1 all-time on the road versus Stetson.

Series Record: FIU leads 6-5-1

UP NEXT
