FIU Women's Soccer Set to Welcome Southern on Sunday; Match Time 12:00 PM

Panthers look to extend win streak upon 3-1 win at Stetson Thursday

MIAMI, Fla. – FIU women's soccer returns to action in Miami this Sunday afternoon, hosting Southern University at FIU Soccer Stadium for its second home match of the season. Sunday's match has been pushed up to a 12 p.m. start. 
 
Sunday, Aug. 27, 2022 vs. Southern (1-1-1)  
FIU looks to extend its win streak after notching its first win of the 2022 season, 3-1, over Stetson on Thursday evening. Freshman midfielder Catherine Rapp paced the Panthers with two goals for her first career brace, while sophomore forward Nikole Solis added her second career goal in the match.
 
Chinatsu Kaio and Noemi Paquin recorded assists in the match, as FIU displayed a dominant attack in posting a 16-5 shot differential over the Hatters for the match. The Panthers held strong defensively to only allow two shots from the Hatters in the second half, as senior goalkeeper Ithaisa Vinoly recorded four saves for the win in goal.
 
Additionally, several Panthers recorded shots on goal in Farah El Tayar (2), Kim Schneider, Selena Ramos, Deborah Bien-Aime and Dominique Marcelli.
 
Rapp leads the Panthers with four points (2 goals), followed by Noemi Paquin (1g, 1a), Delinda Sehlin and Nikole Solis (1g), and Chinatsu Kaio and Idelys Vazquez (1a).  
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN:
Sunday's matchup marks the first all-time meeting between the Panthers and Jaguars, as Southern enters Sunday 1-1-1 overall after a 2-1 win at Nicholls (Aug. 19), 0-0 draw versus North Dakota State and 4-1 loss at FGCU on Thursday.
 
Southern is led by graduate midfielder Helaun Mulligan with a pair of goals – SU's lone goal scorer through three matches played. Victoria Thomas (3 shots), Aniya Clark and Khari Price (2 shots each) also support the Jaguars' attack, though, SU is currently being outshot by an average of 15 shots per game thus far (22-7). Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Bellamy enters Sunday match with 21 saves and an .808 save percentage upon five goals allowed.
 
UP NEXT:
FIU will make the short trip over to Coral Gables for a Thursday night matchup at Miami on Sept. 1. Kickoff is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Cobb Stadium.
