No. 13 FIU Drops Tough Road Match at #RV New Hampshire

Panthers return home Friday night to battle No. 12 Tulsa

DURHAM, N.H. (Sept. 10, 2022) – The No. 13 ranked FIU Panthers fell on the road on Saturday night to a tough New Hampshire squad by a score of 3-0 at Wildcat Stadium.

The first half saw excellent defense, limiting the chances for both sides as the contest remained scoreless for nearly the entire opening period.

The Wildcats would turn on the pressure in the final minutes of the first half, eventually taking the lead in the 44th minute when UNH scored on a corner kick that sailed just past the out-stretched hands of goalkeeper Kevin Harr. FIU created a chance of their own and nearly equalized right away with 11 seconds left oin the opening half, when Matteo Gasperoni fired a shot from close range that was stopped by UNH.

The Panthers offense started the second half strong, maintaining possession and creating scoring chances. A great opportunity came in the 54th minute as David Garcia pushed his way up the field and fired a shot on target that was saved.

In the 73rd minute, UNH extended its lead after being awarded a penalty shot attempt.

FIU turned on the pressure again in the final 10 minutes in search of an equalizer. The Panthers were able to create multiple chances but could not find the back of the net.

In the dying moments, UNH would move their advantage to 3-0 after the Bobcats headed home a cross at the far post to close out the match.
