MIAMI (Sept. 19, 2022) – Stephen Afrifa of FIU men's soccer was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Â
Afrifa led the Panthers to a massive 3-0 upset of then No. 10 Tulsa with two goals in FIU's first-ever match as a member of The American.
Â
His first goal came just six minutes into the match after he intercepted a wayward pass and beat the Tulsa keeper to put FIU up 1-0. Afrifa's second goal would come from great defense as well as he took the ball off a Tulsa defender and finished again after another great solo run.
Â
Afrifa leads FIU with five goals this season, good for second in The American and eighth in the country.
