ORLANDO, Fla (September 2, 2022) - The FIU cross country program opened up the 2022 season Friday evening at the UCF Cross Country Invitaitonal in Orlando, Florida. 

Senior Delilah Ayan paced the women, finishing in 20:40 to place 46th for the Panthers. Hannah Buchanan and Sabrina Gomez made their debuts for FIU and were the second and third scorers for the Panthers, while Jemi Ortega and Nicole Hillis rounded out the top five. 

On the men's side, freshman Dennis Moreno was the top Panther, coming across the line in 17:15. Disner Moreno, Jonathan Pineda, Joshua Webster, and Andoni Mercado followed as the top five for FIU in the season opener. 

Overall, the Panther men placed sixth, while the women finished in eighth. 

The group will resume training in preparation for their next meet - the FAU XC Invitational, set to take place September 30 at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.
