COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Sophomore
Karissa Kilby (E) finished tied for eighth to lead the FIU women's golf team at the 2022 Coeur d'Alene Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, as the Panthers finished 17th out of 19 teams at the par-71 Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course.
Kilby, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, continues her momentum after a promising freshman campaign, and impressive summer competing in the 77th US Women's Open, finishing even with a score of 213 behind a tournament-best 13 birdies and career low first-round 67 - which also marked a tournament low.
Additionally, Kilby led the field in par-5 scoring (-6) over the three-day span to notch her fourth career top-10 finish.
After leading the opening day of action with six birdies for a tournament low 4-under-par 67 on Sunday, the sophomore would finish 2-over-par with a 74 in Monday's second round to remain in the top 10 (T10) prior to using four birdies en route to carding a 72 (+1) to secure the top-10 finish.
Sacramento State (-1) won the tournament's crown by six strokes as the lone team to finish under par, as Nevada (+5) and host Gonzaga (+8) followed in second and third, respectively. Sacramento State's Jennifer Koga (-4) and UC Riverside's Kate Villegas (-4) finished as the field's low medalists.
The Panthers (+48) were slotted as high as 15th through Monday's second round, prior to finishing 18-over on Tuesday for a total score of 900, while scoring wins over Hawaii (+55) and Southern Utah (+62).
Junior
Millburn Ho (+11) finished tied for 45th with a score of 224, highlighted by a second-round 1-under-par 70 that featured four birdies, while sophomore
Arlynn Spence (+15) finished tied for 65th with a score of 228.
Freshman
Kelly Shanahan finished with a score of 155, due to a first-round DQ, to finish 98th, as
Riley Hamilton finished 99th with a first-round 80 after withdrawing the final two rounds due to injury to round out FIU's lineup for the tournament.
Additionally, freshmen
Jenna Chun (+10) and
Casey Yu (+13) made their FIU debuts competing as individuals, seing Chun tie for 42nd with a score of 223, followed by Yu tied for 56th with a score of 226.
