DALLAS, Texas (Sept. 23, 2022) – No. 21 FIU Men's Soccer were on the road, Friday night, taking on No. 25 SMU, eventually falling to the Mustangs, 6-4.

SMU got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead four minutes into match.
Â
The Panthers would not stay down long, tying the match in the 17th minute. A foul at the edge of the box would see
Julian Hodek whip in a great cross, finding the head of
David Garcia who put the ball in the back of the net, his first of the season.
Â
The Mustangs would have a quick response scoring twice in the spaces of four minutes to put SMU ahead 3-1 and find a fourth goal before halftime.

The Panthers would strike first in the second half, halving their deficit in the 56th minute. Another great Hodek cross would be deflected, eventually falling to the feet of
Andrew Bennett who smashed home the goal, his first of the season, to make the score 4-2.

Two minute later FIU would make the score 4-3.
Simon Afrifa rose high to head down a ball in the box that was picked up and finished by
Paulo Alves.

The flurry of goals would continue with SMU scoring in the 66th minute and adding another 13 minutes later to push the advantage to 6-3.

Just before the final whistle,
Fumiya Shiraishi would net his first goal of 2022 with the match ending at 6-4.
