FIU Volleyball Earns its First Win of the Season Taking Down Little Rock

Emily Meyer Continues Strong Play Leading Both Teams with 19 Kills

Fayetteville, Ark. -  The FIU women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season with a convincing 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-14) win over Little Rock on Thursday evening in its opening match at the Arkansas Invitational.

The Panthers (1-6) won a nail-biter in the first set edging out the Trojans 25-23. They took a commanding 2-0 lead after winning the second set easily 25-14. Early on, the Panthers' offense was clicking on all cylinders. Three different Panthers finished with double digit kills.

After being named to the Georgia Tech Invitational All-Tournament Team, Junior Emily Meyer continued to lead the Panthers. She paced all players from both teams with 19 kills and led the Panthers with 22 points.

The Panthers were not able to get the sweep in tonight's match as Little Rock squeaked out a win in the third set 23-25. FIU was able to regroup from the setback and take down the Trojans in the fourth set 25-14. Meyer had some help to put away Little Rock.

Freshman Madison Morgan collected 10 kills and was second on the team with 26 attacks. Graduate student Katie Tuner recorded a team-best 19 digs. The offense was in a good flow throughout the match thanks to Junior Sarah Nading. She was setting up her teammates for perfect opportunities to score and finished with 34 assists to lead both teams.
