DENTON, Texas. – Redshirt freshman
Sifa Joyeuse paced FIU with a team-high 12 points, though, the Panthers fell short to North Texas at The Super Pit on Monday afternoon, 71-45. The loss drops FIU to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in Conference USA, as the Mean Green won back-to-back games for the first time this season and move to 6-11 and 3-4 in the conference.
Joyeuse hit 4-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range, to match her season average in points per game (12), in addition to five rebounds.
Senior guard
Kaliah Henderson recorded 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while sophomore guard
Zaida Gonzalez added seven points and seven rebounds. Senior center
Hope Butera chipped in three points, eight rebounds and one block.
FIU held North Texas to 23 percent from the three-point range (3-13), though, outscored the Panthers in the paint 36-20 and forced 29 turnovers. The Mean Green finished recorded 16 steals and scored 33 points of FIU's turnovers.
UNT's Aniyah Johnson led all players with 14 points and paced the Mean Green with nine rebounds. The Mean Green only had two players with double digit points, but their bench outscored FIU's second unit 33-21.

The Panthers will return to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center for two games this week starting with a Thursday night matchup against the University of Texas at El Paso on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. FIU will later welcome the University of Texas at San Antonio for a Saturday afternoon contest on Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+
