FIU Women’s Hoops Drops Road Contest to No.23 Middle Tennessee, 67-41

Two Panthers finished with double digit points

Murfreesboro, Tenn.– Junior forward Maria Torres and senior guard Kaliah Henderson both paced the Panthers with a team high 10 points, though, the FIU Women's Basketball team fell short to No.23 Middle Tennessee, 67-41, at the Murphy Center Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss drops FIU to 10-10 overall and 5-6 in Conference USA action, as the Lady Raiders improve their overall record to 18-2 and remain undefeated in conference play at 11-0. MTSU also extended their win streak to 16 games after defeating FIU.
 
Henderson was in the starting lineup against MTSU (6 starts in 20 games) and extended her double-digit scoring streak to six games after today's performance. She also led the Panthers in rebounds (7), assists (2), and steals (2).
 
Torres scored five of her 10 points in the first quarter and helped FIU get out to their biggest lead of the game, 15-6, thanks to a 10-0 scoring run.

FIU held the Lady Raiders to 18 percent from the three-point range (4-22), though, outscored the Panthers in the paint 46-22 and forced 18 turnovers. MTSU finished with 10 steals and scored 12 points of FIU's turnovers.
 
MTSU had three players record double digit points led by Savannah Wheeler with 18. Second on the team was Kseniya Malashka with 13 points and led the Lady Raiders with three blocks and four steals.

UP NEXT
The Panthers next stop in the road trip will be in Murfreesboro to play Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
