MIAMI – The #23 ranked FIU Men's Soccer team hits the road Tuesday night with a in-state showdown against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles to wrap up non-conference action.

FIU comes off a dominating 5-1 victory this past Saturday, Oct. 14 against the Saint Mary's Gaels. The Panthers scored four goals in the second half to cruise along for their seventh win of the campaign.

Diego Castillo,
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro,
Eduardo Mustre, and
Francesco Renzi all picked up goals in the victory to mark their fourth win at home.
The AAC leading scoring offense (2.17 goals per game) is led by junior Mustre, who leads the team in goals (8) and points (18) in his first season donning the Blue & Gold. The Córdoba, Mexico native is third in the AAC in goals and second in shots. In addition, his 18 points are the most recorded by a first-year Panther in program history.
Dos Santos Monteiro has shined in the past six games with four goals scored including goals in his past two matches. The junior has logged three goals in AAC play and has totaled for 11 points in his junior campaign. For his efforts this week, Dos Santos Monteiro was named to the weekly American honor roll.
Castillo has found a groove in his past two matches, combining for four points as following a two assist game last Sunday, Oct. 8 against #3 SMU, the junior followed it up with his first Panther goal against Saint Mary's, a strike outside the 18.
The forward duo of
Fumiya Shiraishi and Dos Santos Monteiro has combined for a total of 46 shots, part of a FIU program that is second in the American with shots (161).
On the backline,
Owen Travis has been a impactful player, leading FIU in minutes with 1048, in addition with a defense allowing just 13 goals through 13 games.
In net, goalkeeper
Tyler Hogan has started in nine games with a 0.96 goals against average and totaled for 21 saves. In addition, his save percentage of .700 is third in the conference.
INTERNATIONAL
FIU embraces its name with a truly international roster. This season's Panthers have players from 15 different countries.
The USA leads the way with four players. Denmark, Mexico and France each have three representatives. Portugal, Japan and Germany have two representatives each.
LAST TIME OUT
Both Florida schools have matched up 15 times dating back to the 2007 season with FIU picking up 11 victories.
The Panthers have won the last four meeting against the Eagles, with their last win coming last season in a 3-2 victory in Miami on Oct. 22 as Dos Santos Monteiro netted a pair of goals in the non-conference win.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
FGCU enters the non-conference matchup with a 3-4-4 (2-1-2 ASUN) record, coming off a 1-0 this past Saturday against defending ASUN champions, Lipscomb, 1-0, on the road in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Eagles this season have recorded wins over UAB, Stetson and North Florida.
Offensively, FGCU is led by freshman Luis Lugo who leads the Eagles in goals (3) and points (6). Following along is junior Shoki Yoshida, who is second for FGCU with a pair of goals. ASUN All-Preseason Team Midfielder Alon Drey has started in ten matches this season, while second on the team in minutes played (761).
In net, Broward County native, Daniel Copeland started the past match against Lipscomb where recorded a save. Copeland previously started in the matches against Stetson on Sep. 23 and North Florida on Sep. 30, which have resulted in victories.
UP NEXT
With just three games left, FIU will get back to AAC play as they head up to Boca Raton to take on the Florida Atlantic Owls on Friday, Oct. 20.
