MIAMI – The #25 ranked FIU Men's Soccer team hits the road for a midweek conference matchup against the UAB Blazers from Birmingham, Alabama on Wednesday night.
Wednesday, Oct. 4 vs. UAB Blazers (0-5-4 0-2-1 AAC)
FIU comes off a third straight AAC win, taking down the South Florida Bulls, 2-1, this past Friday, Sep. 29.
FIU's 3-0 start marks the best start in AAC play in program history.
The Panthers had a second half scoring surge Friday with goals from sophomore Joao Domingues and junior
Eduardo Mustre to seal the victory.
In addition, goalkeeper
Tyler Hogan was named the AAC goalkeeper of the week while Mustre and
Owen Travis were named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for their contributions in the win.
The offense is led by Mustre, who leads the team in goals (6) and points (13) in his first season donning the Blue & Gold. The Córdoba, Mexico has scored goals in three consecutive matches.
Newcomer
Kasper Skraep has shined with a pair of goals on the season and five points.
Veterans Dos Santos Monterio and
Fumiya Shiraishi have been impactful with 40 shots combined on the early campaign.
On the backline,
Owen Travis leads the team on defense having played in a total of 789 minutes on the pitch.
In net, goalkeeper
Tyler Hogan tallied a save in the Friday night win, and sits second in all of the American with a 0.94 goals against average.
INTERNATIONAL
FIU embraces its name with a truly international roster. This season's Panthers have players from 15 different countries.
The USA leads the way with four players. Denmark, Mexico and France each have three representatives. Portugal, Japan and Germany have two representatives each.
LAST TIME OUT
Heading into Wednesday's contest, FIU has played UAB 18 times, dating back to the 2006 season.
Last season, FIU sealed a 2-1 win on Oct. 22 in Miami with goals from Shiraishi and former Panther
Stephen Afrifa.
The Panthers have the won the last eight matches against the Blazers.
SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
The Blazers come into the contest, searching for their first win of their season.
UAB dropped their last conference matchup this past Friday, Sep. 29 in a 1-0 loss on the road to Tulsa.
Offensively, the Blazers are led by freshmen Issac Calderon and Humphrey Do, who each are tied for the team lead in goals (3), and points (4), while five other players have entered the scoring column for UAB.
In net, Jonathan Munteanu has started in the last three matches, notching 6 saves with a 1.25 GAA. Munteanu totaled for a season-high of three saves against Tulsa.
