The Panthers, tied-second in the current Conference USA standings, look to continue their successful start to the 2023 CUSA season. FIU (9-10, 5-1) split its two mid-week matchups with Middle Tennessee, of which both were thrilling five-set affairs.
Yasso Amin racked up 26 kills and added 10 service aces and 10.0 total blocks in the two matches against MTSU. Amin leads the conference in service aces per set with 16 aces in 17 CUSA sets.
Syra Tanchin, last week's Defensive Player of the Week, is also off to a great start in CUSA, ranking seventh in kills per set (3.05) and sixth in kills per set (3.23).
As a team, FIU ranks second in the conference in hitting percentage in CUSA matches, attacking at a .279 clip.
SCOUTING UTEP
The Miners (11-6, 3-3) enter this two-game set tied-fourth in the CUSA standings. UTEP dropped both of its contests to first-place Western Kentucky and then swept Jacksonville State at home.
UTEP is coming off a road split at New Mexico State, downing NMSU 3-1 before falling in five in the second matchup.
Danika Washington and Kaya Weaver have both been efficient in CUSA play, sitting third and fifth in hitting percentage. The Miners' employ a two-setter offense with Kalia Kohler and Mattie Gantt combining for 10.66 assists per set.
Collectively, UTEP is a solid blocking team with 2.77 blocks per set, second in CUSA action. One area the Miners have struggled is defensively with just 8.91 digs per set, last in league play.

UP NEXT
The Panthers will have a break from CUSA action next weekend before taking on FGCU on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. ET in Fort Myers, Fla.
