MIAMI – The FIU women's soccer team battled hard in a 0-0 draw to the Liberty Lady Flames on Saturday night in a showdown between the top teams in Conference USA from FIU Soccer Stadium.
With the draw, FIU moves into sole possession of second in CUSA (7-3-3 2-0-2 CUSA), while handling the Lady Flames their first draw of the season. Entering the match, Liberty were winners of 24 of their last 25 matches.
It was a back-and-fourth match all night long, with both teams trading posession. The Panthers battled offensively, leading the match in shots, 6-5, with junior
Noemi Paquin notching five shots in the first 45 minutes, while the backline held their own against a gritty Liberty scoring offense.
Goalkeeper
Ithaisa Vinoly held off the Flames in the first half with three saves entering the break.
Heading into the second half of action, FIU continued to fight in the putting up five shots, while Vinoly was impactful in net, adding in with four saves through the last 45 minutes to end the night in a 0-0 draw.
On the night, FIU never backed down, evenly playing the Lady Flames with 11 shots, led by Paquin's six shots and junior
Nikole Solis's shot on goal.
Vinoly recorded seven saves, which is second-most on the season in a match for the graduate student, while notching her sixth clean-sheet of the season.

The Panthers get set for a pivotal conference matchup on the road, taking on the top team in Conference USA, the New Mexico State Aggies on Thursday, Oct. 12.
