MIAMI — FIU's volleyball program dropped a tightly-contested four-set match to visiting New Mexico State on Friday evening in Conference USA (CUSA) action.
FIU (12-17, 8-7 CUSA) evened the match 1-all with a 28-26 victory in the second set before the Aggies (18-9, 10-5 CUSA) took the final two frames, 25-20 and 25-22, respectively.
Syra Tanchin posted 19 kills to lead the offensive effort, attacking at a .268 clip. Travel Morris added eight kills in support on 21 attempts. Savannah Cook dished out 35 assists to facilitate the attack.
Gianna Tagoa'i earned her first start in CUSA play and had six kills, adding five digs. Amber Beals led the defense with 13 digs from her libero position. FIU totaled 48 kills and hit .132 while New Mexico State had 56 kills at a .320 clip.
The Panthers take on NMSU in their final regular season match tomorrow, hosting the Aggies for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
