FIU Women's Basketball Will Look to Bounce Back Against Coppin State

This is their first meeting in program history against Coppin State

Miami, Fla - The FIU Women's Basketball Team (2-1, 0-0 C-USA) will come back home to go up against Coppin State for the Panther's fourth game of the year. The game will be held at Ocean Bank Convocation Center Saturday, November 18 at 1:00 P.M.

The Panthers will go into Saturday's contest coming off their first loss of the season to Florida Gulf Coast.

FIU threw out a new starting-five on the court, with Tanajah Hayes replacing Angena Belloso, for Hayes's first start of the season. Hayes would play 29 minutes, putting up nine points, five rebounds, and an assist in the game.

The Panthers would have three players go for double digit points. Graduate student Olivia Trice would lead the way with an efficient 15 points, going 4-7 from the field, including 2-3 from behind the arc and 5-6 from the free throw line. 

Graduate student Kaliah Henderson and Sophomore Mya Kone would each have 10 points in the game as well. Along with her 10 points, Henderson would also have two rebounds and a steal, while Kone would tack on three rebounds, one assist, a block and a steal on the night.

FIU continued their stellar free throw shooting from their previous game vs UTRGV, going 15-18 from the line against FGCU. Their percentage on the season now sits at 75.3%.

Scouting Coppin State

Coppin State will go into Saturday's game with a 1-3 record, with their most recent loss coming against Syracuse University. Their lone win of the season came against Saint Francis where they won 70-34.

The Eagles have three players averaging 10 or more points so far this season, led by redshirt junior Faith Blackstone who is averaging 15 points on the year. Along with Blackstone, junior Laila Lawrence is averaging 13.3 points, and Angel Jones is averaging 12.8 points through four games.

This will be the first matchup FIU and Coppin State have played against each other in their programs' histories.
