MIAMI – On Sunday night, the #22 FIU men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker, losing to Florida Atlantic, 1-0, in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championships from FIU Soccer Stadium.
 
Both teams were deadlocked at 0-0 until Florida Atlantic scored the game winner with five seconds left in regulation to advance to the semi-finals of the AAC championships.
 
On the night, FIU outshot FAU, 9-3, and dominated possession in the first half as Eduardo Mustre lead the team in shots with three. Into the second half, FIU were just short on opportunities before FAU tallied the game winner.
 
Tonight's match marked the first ever meeting between both in-state programs in a postseason match and was the second meeting in the past four matches.
 
The Panthers look ahead to the NCAA Tournament and a at-large bid, which begins on Thursday, Nov. 16.
