Boca Raton, Fla - The FIU Women's Hoops Team will play their first game back from a 10-day break against Florida Atlantic University Thursday, December 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

This Thursday, FIU (5-4) will play their first game since December 3rd, when they beat Bethune-Cookman 54-51.
The Panthers started off hot against Bethune-Cookman, going on a 12-0 in the first quarter en route to a 18-5 lead after one. FIU forced 10 turnovers in the first quarter alone, leading to nine points off turnovers in the opening frame.
FIU went into the half up 11, but Bethune-Cookman found their groove in the third quarter, where they battled back and cut their deficit down to single digits. Junior Aileen Marquez hit two 3-pointers at the end of the period to put FIU back up 15. The Juco transfer ended the afternoon with eight points on 50% shooting, four rebounds and two assists.
BCU went on a run in the fourth quarter to briefly take their first and only lead of the game, but graduate student Kaliah Henderson had some heroics up her sleeve. The guard hit a contested, and-1 layup to tie the game for the Panthers, only to put them in the lead for good soon after with the made free throw. Henderson finished the contest with 10 points and five steals, both of which are season highs for the former all-conference selection.
Courtney Prenger continued her good play, filling up the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The transfer from Xavier raised her points per game average up to double digits on the season.
Scouting Florida Atlantic
Florida Atlantic (4-3) will come into Thursday's game coming off a 78-60 win over St. Thomas. The Owls are in a similar position as the Panthers, having not had a game since December 5th.
FAU sits at 8th in the American Athletic Conference standings. Their 64.3 points per game are good for 12th in the AAC. They are led by sophomore Aniya Hubbard who is averaging 18.2 points per game on the season, sitting at fourth in the American in points per game. The Owls have two other players averaging in double digits as well. Senior guard Jada Moore averages 11.2 points per game, while graduate student Janeta Rozentale averages 10.9 points per game. Rozentale is also sixth in the conference in rebounds per game with 7.4.
This will be the first meeting between FIU and FAU January 11, 2023, when FIU fell to the Owls 76-66.
