MIAMI (Feb. 19, 2023) – Baseball closed out the opening series of 2023 with George Mason on Sunday losing the game, 5-2.
Redshirt senior
Alec Sanchez extended his hit streak to three games going 2-4, while junior
Ryne Guida earned his second RBI in as many games.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Guida hit a double to deep left center to drive in junior
Dante Girardi.
George Mason responded in the next half inning with a solo home run to tie the score at 1-1.
The Patriots took the lead for the first time after driving in three runs in the top of the fifth, bringing the score to 4-1.
FIU put together a strong bottom of the fifth, drawing two walks and hitting a single to load the bases. A well hit ball up the middle by Girardi would turn into a double play but drive in a run, making the score 4-2.
The Panthers would earn four more hits but could not mount a comeback, eventually dropping the series deciding game, 5-2.
